Reference Image for line drawings Looking back at my gesture drawings for this assigments, as I was looking at them I struggled to find a favorite. I certainly didn't feel those "this is perfection" feelings, but as I looked them over in the past few days, there were things that I found myself liking from different sketches. For example, I feel like the 1 minute drawing is an absolute mess, but in comparsion to some of the drawings included in the text, it struck me as the equivelant of throwing ideas on the page. However, even though I had given myself a number of things to focus attention on and tried to remember that this was not about outlining or even trying to make the image exactly like the reference, I still found myself struggling. Furthermore, to the point of finding different parts from each sketch that I liked, bringing in scribbling swiggles in reference to the lamp felt refreshing. I think it also gave me the ability to feel more freedom to start adding definition lines that turned up more and more in 7-10. I think it's because of this that my preference of which drawings I like most are either 7 or 8 because it wasn't until then that I started looking more at mass gesture and focussing less on gesture drawing. Moreover, I found myself using light scribbles to add definition in certain areas as well. In looking at these, I'm also aware that I tried to start each drawing from the center of the box and work outwards. I really struggled with feeling like I couldn't put anything on it, though it now occurs to me I could've used more mass gesture on some level. Even so, I also feel like it was that feeling that kept me focussing on the objects around it and trying to add more definition, especially into the background. Finally, in comparison of the 1 Minute Drawing to the 10 Minute drawing, it think it's easy to say they look nothing alike. However I can also see where the time spent on the one minute drawing gave a basis to what ultimately became the 10 minute drawing.
